THANK YOU

I was surprised when several people mentioned that I abandoned my blog. I thought I was the only one that read it!

I didn't really abandon it. My plan had been to document my first of year of renovation then change the focus to adventures you can take in the Hill Country. (Meeting all my renovation goals took a bit more than a year) I should have written this message months ago instead of leaving my faithful readers hanging!  ;)

Meg and Erin of MAD MEG CREATIVE SERVICES have taken over the social media and now it has such a professional look.

I'll be back soon with Hill Country Adventures to share.

I can't wait for you to come out to Legacy Hideaway to make  memories with your family and friends.

Always,

AND THE FIRE PIT IS COMPLETE!!!

As much as I whined about "this is my project and I want to do it by myself"; when it came down to it, I needed Richard's help. My first set back happened when I went to pick the bricks in Austin as I was headed to Legacy Hideaway. The business had moved, just vanished -no sign on the door and they didn't answer their phone. I had just purchased the grill from them a few weeks ago. The bricks were specialty bricks- a brand name not carried at the local hardware stores in FBG or even the Lowes or Home Depot in Kerrville. UGH!! Rather than search for another company that carried the bricks, my lack of patience and determination to complete the project got the better of me and I broke down and bought 48 fire bricks from Sutherlands. They were not the correct size, which meant I needed more bricks and they wouldn't create the square pit that I wanted. I tried lots of formations. I almost had a meltdown but with Richard's help, I came up with a plan. We built the pit and filled in the extra spaces with concrete. We finished just as it got dark. We lit the first fire and toasted the first marshmellows! Thank you Richard for completing your projects and helping with mine! I couldn't have done it without you.

I can't wait for you can come out to Legacy Hideaway to make s'mores and memories with your family and friends too.

Always,

Anita

The Bar is Complete

In December I started the project to refinish the bar that once belonged to my parents. It was dirty and the old stickers were falling off. Once I cleaned it and sanded it, I put on the new stickers that I have been collecting for a few years; knowing I would refinish the bar... one day. One day is finally here. The bar is complete and will remain on the deck at Legacy Hideaway. I can't wait for you to come out Legacy Hideaway to see this restored piece of our family's history and make memories with your family and friends too.

Always,

Anita.

2017 Goals

Enjoyed the rainy day sitting at my kitchen table in Austin updating my Legacy Hideaway blog and writing down my 2017 goals. One of my goals for 2017 is to find a social media guru to take Legacy Hideaway to the next level on social media. Another goal is to FINALLY finish my fire pit. I can't wait until the fire pit is complete so you can come out to Legacy Hideaway and make memories with your family and friends too.

Always,

Anita

Happy Birthday to Me

My girlfriends are the best. For my birthday, they surprised me with these cool cups with my logo! I have a supply at home and I have left some in the cabinet so you can use them too. Now you can take your coffee or whatever on the road! Thanks girls, I love using my cups.

I can't wait for you to come out Legacy Hideaway to celebrate your birthday and make memories with your family and friends too.

With Gratitude

On the days I am working in Fredericksburg, I stop by Legacy Hideaway...just to check it out and make sure everything is good for our next guest and write them a note. I have to admit I check the chalkboard and the little green book to see if any guests have left me a note. It is so exciting to find notes like this on the chalkboard. It lets me know that your family had an opportunity to make some special memories. I love reading the reviews too. When a guest takes the time to write a review on the VACASA site or the Facebook page I find out what we are doing right and what we can improve on. Thank you for sharing your notes! I can't wait for you to come out Legacy Hideaway and make memories with your family and friends, and maybe leave me a note.

Always,

Anita

HAPPY NEW YEAR AND HAPPY HANUKKAH

What a great way to start the New Year. Friends, Neighbors and Family joined us to celebrate the end of 2016 and the new beginnings of 2017.

My friend, KB, talked me into making potato latkes for hanukkah. I haven't done that in long time! It was fun to use every pan and blender at Legacy Hideaway, not so much fun to clean it up though.

Toby took care of the burn pile and created a great evening for sitting by a fire and star gazing. I wish you a wonderful 2017 with lots of prosperity and dream building. I hope the new year brings you out to Legacy Hideaway to make memories with your family and friends.

Always,

Anita

PS The fire was the burn pile of brush..this is NOT the firepit.

Makin' Memories with the sibs and their Momma

NO kids...NO dogs but lots of family. What happens when you get these sibs together! Competition, laughter and fun!  While the guys headed outside to mend fences and eliminate critters; the girls headed the Chisholm Trail Winery only 9 miles from Legacy Hideaway.  We returned with wine and set up the new Baggo game. (also known as corn hull) You will find this game in the Hobby Room Closet. After two practice games we challenged the guys and of course we won! I can't wait for you to come out Legacy Hideaway and make memories with your family and friends.

New Experiences

While I was out working on the playground, trying to get the ground ready for the fire pit, I heard what sounded like a bottle rocket and then saw what appeared to be smoke near the cedar trees. It was a bit unnerving because I thought I was out there all by myself. It took me a bit to figure out it was the pollen from the male juniper tree sharing its pollen. How did I figure it out; simple sneezing, itchy eyes and a strong desire to sleep. I have never in my life had cedar fever until this day. Hence my new experience.  Check out this Youtube video.  youtube cedar pollen  What I experienced  wasn't the explosion as in the video but it was interesting.  I can't wait for you to come out Legacy Hideaway and make memories with your family and friends, of course I don't want you to experience Cedar Fever, just be aware.

Always,

Anita.

Back At Legacy Hideaway-- Doing What I Love

I had a great time with kids this past weekend and we made some special memories. Now I am back at LH preserving some memories.

My parents would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on December 23rd. As a wedding gift they had been given a bar which is now in my possession. My brother and I don't recall much more about the history of the bar, in fact we can't even remember where is was in the house we grew up in. For the last 5 years it has been sitting on our workshop porch getting dirty. My goal is to clean and restore the bar, to keep the original elements and place it on the deck at Legacy Hideaway.  I forgot to take the before photo but here is the during photo! I can't wait for you to come out Legacy Hideaway to see this piece of history and make memories with your family and friends too.

Anita.

Everything's Gonna Be Alright

So, I was feeling a bit sorry for myself and came out to the pond sulk. When you sit on the rocks by the pond and listen to the fountain and Paul Thorn sing "Everything's Gonna Be Alright" on the Ipod, it's very hard to continue that sulky frame of mind. For a few minutes, I was sulky because my children will not be coming to Legacy Hideaway for the holidays. I want them here so I can make memories with them. So I switch from sulky to gratitude. I will still have all of them at home for a few hours in Austin. We will still celebrate together and make memories....just not a Legacy Hideaway. YEP all is good I have three great kids and I can't wait see them tomorrow night!

So remember even if you can't make it out Legacy Hideaway, make memories with your family and friends wherever you are

Always,

Anita.

Gifts that Keep on Giving

Thanks to Amy and Ben for the handmade bird feeder. The bright colors stand out among the trees and the cardinals enjoy their meals from  their special restaurant. Watching the birds eat from the feeder has brought me and my guests much joy.

I can't wait for you to come out Legacy Hideaway to fill the bird feeders so you can enjoy birds and make memories with your family and friends too.

Sharing the Legacy

My brother's daughter and her BFF came to celebrate their birthdays in Texas. So what could be better celebration than a special trip out to Legacy Hideaway and the Hill Country to view christmas lights. The girls helped to add more ornaments to our christmas tree, hiked to the back of the property and of course,  took selfies with the Legacy Hideaway photo frames, then we jumped in the car to see amazing christmas lights in Fredericksburg and Johnson CIty. I can't wait for you to come out Legacy Hideaway to celebrate your birthday and make memories with your family and friends too.

Girl's Weekend and Holiday Fun

Legacy Hideaway was the place to be this weekend! It was a special girls' weekend. Good friends and mothers and daughters. The rain didn't stop us from having a wonderful time at the Fredericksburg Holiday Light Parade or making a stop at the Quintessential Chocolates Store and checking out the Chisholm Trail Winery.

The weekend was perfect and started off by finding a note from a recent guest that told me how much they enjoyed their visit to Texas and Legacy Hideaway. Thank you for the note; it makes me feel so happy to know you enjoyed your time here and we have been a part of the wonderful memories you are taking home.

Shaye and Kelly pitched in to get the Christmas Tree up and decorated before the other girls arrived. The fireplace has been turned on for the winter season. (It finally got down to 40 degrees..that's when I turn on the fireplace) You are going to enjoy the ease of of getting a cozy fire started when you come out to Legacy Hideaway. I can't wait for you to come out and enjoy the tranquility and make memories with your friends too.

Always,

Anita.

My wish is for a prosperous new year filled with lots of making memory making opportunities for my guests and my family/friends. Come to Legacy Hideaway and make memories.

Pond Renovation Progress

Michael from Accolyte Services LLC, has been working on the pond. My fountain is now stabilized inside the pond. The next step is the pump! I can't wait to see it on my next visit. I really want to put fish in the pond but I don't want  the raccoons dining on them. I guess it will be pond plants. Open for suggestions!

I really want to see the photos taken with Legacy Hideaway photo frames.

Richard to the Rescue

After seeing all those weeds, mowing became the priority of the weekend. Richard showed up and we both jumped on mowers to take down the weeds. I wish I had taken before photos. It was incredible The entire driveway had disappeared. We mowed a few acres less than normal so that we didn't over work the mowers. Richard was a trooper and mowed the main trail. I did take one photo of the beautiful yellow flowers on the main trail.

After mowing we worked on the playground. We replaced all the boards on the picnic table. This time I took before photos but forget to take the after photos! The bottom is painted blue because we heard the bees/wasps will not build nests on blue paint because they think it is the sky. We’ll see if there is any truth to that.   Now you can have your meals under the oak trees and play horseshoes or washers.

I learn some things the hard way. I left the washers for the game in the cups but they disappeared.…they must have gotten lost in the sand or the rocks. I painted some new ones and the washers can now be found in house in the toy closet.

I purchased the new fountain for the pond! I ‘m so excited to get this project moving along! I want you to see the pond renovation when you come out to Legacy Hideaway.

Just a few more items and the playground will be complete. Come to Legacy Hideaway and make memories.

My Rant

Drove up to the gate at Legacy Hideaway and could not believe my eyes; there are these gigantic weeds all over the place. They have taken over the driveways and the trails. Some of the weeds are taller than me! We just mowed, these things must grow two feet every night. I have never seen this. I don’t know what the weeds are called, I don’t know if they are seasonal or brought on by the recent rains but they are maniac! After the playground project is complete…I might have to buy Richard a tractor.  I hope our mowers can get these maniac weeds down before our next guests arrive! I promise not to make you mow but there may be fewer trails for the next few weeks.

Come to Legacy Hideaway and make memories ….playing in the weeds.

Anita

The Invasion of The Butterflies

The butterflies must be migrating because the drive in the  Hill Country west of Fredericksburg was brutal today. So many butterflies on my windshield. It really made me sad but just as I was leaving one of those beautiful creatures landed on the ornamental bird house on the porch and posed for me.

I hope you get to see the Butterflies too. Come out to Legacy Hideaway and make some memories.

Pond Renovation

I am so excited. I have found someone to to do my pond renovation and it starts next week! It will start with draining the pond and cleaning out all the sludge. That sludge will become the best compost once it dries out. So I will be able to repurpose it into my gardens! I am still trying to decide which of the pots below will become the new fountain! Come out to Legacy Hideaway and make some memories.

THANK YOU!!

Vivian S. Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a special review. So glad you'll had a good time at Legacy Hideaway. Thanks so much for the notice about the A/C. I contacted AIRTECH HEATING AND A/C out of Kerrville and problem was resolved. The tech even installed the new filter I purchased! Now everyone should be comfortable inside the house!

In the early morning I spotted a yellow house finch on the feeder, He was so beautiful. I'd like for him to hang around so I went to Walmart and purchased a finch feeder and some food. Hopefully he will show up for this weekend's guests. Observing the wildlife from the big windows is so special. I can't wait for you to stand in this spot and witness mother nature at work. Most of the time you won't need binoculars but they are on the window sill just in case.

Critters and Games

Our major project list is getting a little shorter and I have been a bit lax about taking before and after photos. I am having more fun taking photos of critters with my iPhone 4!  Richard and I mowed about seven acres. He likes making trails for you to hike and I like the easy stuff around house. After mowing ,we focused on completing the horseshoe pits in the playground. It is not regulation size, it's fun size. We played a few rounds. After my first pitch, Richard actually moved his truck about 100 yards away.

I had a very up close and experience with armadillos. Around 6:00 pm they come out to eat and cool off. One was chasing grubs and the other was swimming in the pond. I know they are rodents but it was fascinating to watch them. I hope you get to see them too.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY

Thank you to all those that have served and are serving now so we can celebrate our Country. My daddy served in the Air Force and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. Richard's dad was career Air Force and retired at Bergstrom Air Force Base after 25 years of service.  My maternal grandfather served in WWII as a Merchant Marine and lost his life when his ship was torpedoed.  So in honor of them we celebrate our precious freedom that allows us to follow dreams.

We held the Official Grand Opening of Legacy Hideaway on Independence Weekend with family and friends. Josie brought her family, water balloons and the best desserts. Adrianna came bearing gifts of games and taught us dominos..always an amazing teacher. Of course we ended the celebration with sparklers and s'mores.

Our guests acted an advisory team and helped us plan the playground. The vision included washer pits, horseshoe pits, fire pit with benches and of course the picnic table.I have decided I need a professional to help bring the pond back to life. So recommendations are needed.

The rains have stopped so Richard and I finally completed staining the main part of deck. We are proud of the new look. We used some of the old boards to build the frames for the washer and horseshoe pits.

Come out to Legacy Hideaway and make some memories.

Hey BooBoo, I found a picnic table!

Yeah, we acquired a picnic table for  the Legacy Hideaway playground. It needs some work and Richard is the man for this job. He has been replacing boards so your tushy won't get splinters. My job will be paint it. Not sure if I will do a fun bright color or be wise and use the leftover stain from the deck. HUMMMM decisions decisions...

Guest Reviews and Super Powers

I did the happy dance all weekend. When we arrived at Legacy Hideaway there was a note on my white board from our last guests. It was very special to me and included a great review. It warms my heart to know they will have special memories of Legacy Hideaway.  It was also very very refreshing to walk into a super clean house. The VACASA housekeepers rock! Legacy Hideaway felt like the perfect place to relax and not a work zone!  (Although we had lots of work to do)

My California niece and her boyfriend spent the weekend with us. Richard had both of them on the mowers for their first time ever. They are such great kids and now they are part of the Legacy.

While they mowed it was my job to demolish the big rock smoker. It was really nice on one side but the rocks on the other side were falling out. So I put on my work boots and gloves (they give me super powers) grabbed a sledge hammer and knocked it down! WHAHOO I felt powerful. I repurposed the rocks near the pond. The smoker may be rebuilt at a later time using the proper fire bricks but for now there is a new gas grill that can make great burgers.

Come out to Legacy Hideaway and make some memories.

Anita

Inspiration=Ideas

Although we are not at Legacy Hideaway this weekend, we are still busy creating plans to make your time here even more relaxing. The next projects are the playground and the pond. Saturday we went to Hill Country Water Gardens in Cedar Park to get some help/ideas on how to make the pond beautiful and safe. www.hillcountrywatergardens.com HCWG is a fun place to wonder around and the staff is so knowledgeable and helpful. There was so much to inspire me and now I have so many new ideas floating around in my head. I am so excited I can’t wait to back out there and make it happen. Hoping the rain will stop long enough for us to get the horseshoe and washer pits installed and the volleyball net up. I have a new concept for the fire pit and it should be an easy install next time we are out there.  Get your marshmallows ready. Come out to Legacy Hideaway and make some memories.

Speaking of Gratitude

Now that we are ready to share Legacy Hideaway with everyone (more on that soon) It's time to say "Thank You." There are so many people that have supported me along way; I know I didn't accomplish this by myself! One person in particular that has been by my side the entire time..bossing me around, listening to my ideas, holding me when I cried, busting his butt to repair the deck and MANY MANY other projects as well as celebrating our accomplishments. Thank you Richard for taking this journey with me.

The Prequel-Where Dreams Begin

The summer of 2008, I attended a Women's Retreat in Doss, Texas at Quiet Hill Ranch. It is a stunning place.(Photo was taken at the retreat) My childhood dream of owning a place in the Texas Hill Country was reawakened. Using my business skills and desire to enjoy the Hill Country, I wanted to create a space for family and friends to experience the Hill Country and make memories. It was a windy, curvy road filled with many road blocks to get here.  I made plans, readjusted plans, worried about resources, attended workshops, talked and talked about my plans but never gave up. Last summer I attended Enlightened Warrior Camp.  It was a life changing event. I made a promise to my camp partner, Brian, that I would return home define my goal and be laser focused on getting it accomplished. That meant STOP TALKING AND DO IT!!! Thank you Brian for holding my promise because Warriors keep their promises. Today I am sitting on the deck at Legacy Hideaway sharing my deepest gratitude  and personal thoughts while enjoying the after rain breeze, birds and squirrels.  Come out to Legacy Hideaway and make some memories.

Making Memories

We spent limited hours at Legacy Hideaway this weekend because we had some social engagements! We were sharing life experiences and creating memories by attending a surprise birthday celebration for a friend turning 70 and a celebration for a young couple getting married and starting a new life. FUN TIMES. We arrived at Legacy Hideaway at sunset. It was nice and cool after the spring rains and the clouds created a spectacular backdrop of color. We added some new "toys" to the Hobby Room; a pop-up castle tent, a white/black board easel and a croquet set. Gotta come check it out and play croquet in the wildflower meadow!

Early this morning Richard and I took a drive down RM 783 towards Kerrville  to grab some breakfast at Cafe at the Ridge.  It's a 20 mile drive from Legacy Hideaway and it's so worth it. On the drive you will see exotic animals, Hill Country vistas and wildflowers! The food is yummy, the desserts are almost too pretty to eat...ALMOST and the gardens are inspirational. Kerrville is a another place to visit and explore.

It was easy to continue my work in the cactus garden this afternoon after walking the through the gardens at The Ridge. The cactus garden at the entrance of Legacy Hideaway is in need of some love. The weeds are overgrown and there are many dead plants. I spent the afternoon clearing it out and although I have a long way to go; one of these days it will be as inspirational as those at The Ridge.

Come out to Legacy Hideaway and make some memories.

Always,

Anita

Mother's Day, Work Boots and Rock Squirrels

While I didn't get to spend time with my children on Mother's Day each of them called  while I worked in the yard. So I was able to do two things at once that I love to do--talk to my children and work in the garden. Richard mowed and defined the trails so you will be able to amble around the property on clean trails. The Wildflower Meadow is mowed in a strange pattern. The few blue bonnets and other flowers were not mowed down to allow them to go to seed. The Thistles are beautiful plants but the stalk and leaves are so prickly and mean. You don't want to be around them without shoes or gloves. Wearing work boots and gloves gives me super power -so I can uproot a Thistle plant, step on a scorpion, kick over a rock and throw things onto a burn pile. This is the country after all and we share it with critters and prickly plants.

I met a new critter today, through the window. I saw him run across the deck and watched him run down the stairs and eat the bird seed that fallen to ground. I was able to watch him and take a few photos through the big window in the living area. My friend, Glen, was able to identify him as a rock squirrel.

Speaking of the living area at Legacy Hideaway, it is an inviting area to share with family and friends. The Shapiro Family portrait hangs above the fireplace. The photo was taken on Mother's Day in the late 60's at a Houston Restaurant. As a kid, I had seen the small photo but it wasn't until we were packing up my mother's house and someone did a last a check of the attic and recovered this amazing portrait. I had never seen it before. Now it gives me great pride to hang it at Legacy Hideaway so everyone can share this memory of my parents: The reason for Legacy Hideaway.

Come out to Legacy Hideaway and make some memories.

SPECIAL BLOG

The last week in April, I was blessed to be able to share Legacy Hideaway with special guests. Friends from North Carolina were coming to Texas in need of some relaxation and I had the perfect place. It was an opportunity to share Legacy Hideaway for the first time and find out what details still needed to be added. I love it when things work out! Gail writes a heartfelt blog and has an eye for beauty. I can't thank her and Broc enough for their visit and kind words. Check out her blog and photos here.

Deck is Lookin' Good

This weekend I didn't make it out to Legacy Hideaway but the work didn't stop! Richard and Fredo worked REALLY hard to replace bad boards and mow. The deck and yard look spectacular. I can't thank them enough for all their work. While they were busy working, I was in Houston. I had the opportunity to relive and make new memories with my high school friends. It's hard to say but it was a 40th reunion. We were a pretty awesome group of kids and we have become pretty awesome adults. It was fun to reconnect. A special thank you to Sally, she was my host. She took me shopping in the Heights so I could find the perfect furnishings for Legacy Hideaway and she gave me a table that you will see in the Hobby room.

The Bluebonnets are Here!

One very important update from last week; Richard DID find bluebonnets growing in the “wildflower meadow” I created in the fall. He was just about to mow them down when he spotted them. Only a few so far but we do have bluebonnets. Those seeds came from Wild Seed Farms east of Fredericksburg.

Legacy Hideaway was work zone with tools and helpers all around! Fredo and Bo came out to help us again this week. Check out the  photo of flowerbed that Bo brought back to life. Richard and Fredo put new boards into the deck. My neighbors are also wonderful. Linda came by with fresh strawberries from her garden and Mike helped us with some electrical work. I am so grateful for everyone's help and support.

I am in front of the window typing, I can see a busy squirrel. He runs up the tree grabs a few kernels of the dried corn cob I put out for him, then runs down the tree and buries it in the leaves. He has repeated this six times. I love being able to experience nature from this window. I hope you will too.

Come out to Legacy Hideaway and make some memories.

Changing Seasons

The welcomed rain has kept us from doing our planned chores this weekend. We hoped to get the lawn mowed, decked repaired and pond cleaned. But we are flexible and moved on to other indoor projects. That’s why I’m on the computer mid-day! Sitting by the picture windows I have a great view of the pond and the bird feeders. We have different birds on the feeders this week. The titmice have moved on and the robins have taken their place. They seem to be kinder and share the feeders with the other birds. The hummers are more plentiful and I have seen up to 8 at a feeder. I made the hummer food this week because it is too expensive to feed them the pre-made red stuff.  There are six hummer feeders and the those tiny birds go through a lot of food. I’m hoping Richard gets some good photos to share this week. The birds are so amazing to watch.  You don't have to take my word for it, come to the Hill Country and experience it. The Wings of Nature Festival is April 29-May 1 at Lady Bird Municipal Park.

The trees are in full bloom. I never knew there were so many shades of greens. The Hill Country wildflowers are in full bloom too. My words will do them no justice; you just have to see them for yourself.  The seeds I planted didn't come up this year. I’m hoping they went underground before the deer got ahold of them. The Thistles have a really pretty red flower. We have purple and white Iris growing in the flower bed. That was a wonderful surprise. The rain has let up so we are headed outside to take some pictures of the property.

Come out to Legacy Hideaway and make some memories..

Spring Morning

This morning I have the pleasure of enjoying my coffee and writing from my easy chair in front of the picture window. I strategically hung a hummer feeder in front of the window and this morning I have not been disappointed. Two hummers are having breakfast. I am amazed at how well I can view them and see their teeny tiny feet. These creatures are mesmerizing and I am so glad to start my day watching these little miracle  birds.  There was frost on my car this morning and by this afternoon it will be a sunny 75 degrees outside, AHHH spring in Texas. This is good because my work today will be outside. My goal today is to clean the leaves out of the pond.

Richard will begin sanding the deck and replacing the bad boards. We want you to be safe when when you enjoy the deck. The pond is a new experience for me so I will be learning how to take care of it and make it safe for our critters to quench their thirst. My working hours are limited this weekend because we are actually going to have some fun in Fredericksburg and Harper today.  Brynn is out here to celebrate her birthday so  we will make a trip to Downtown Fredericksburg to meet her grandparents for lunch at Auslander's. Downtown FRB is only 18 miles away so we can enjoy this secluded beauty out here and then head into town for the attractions of the small Historic town. The Harper Library is having a fundraiser in the park and I want to check out the silent auction. I purchased my raffle tickets last week when I visited the library and signed up for my library card. I was very impressed, it is a pretty nice library for such a small-town.

Family and Fun!

After spending a few days on projects we took so time to celebrate with family.  Bobby and Lisa came out to Legacy Hideaway with their grown up kids for our annual Easter Egg hunt. This year we added a new element thanks to the internet. We hide specialty beers along with candy, cascarones, and eggs filled with money and prizes. The competition was fierce and Jenny once again took the big prizes. When you walk thru the Wildflower Meadow, you may find remnants of colorful confetti eggs.  I can't wait for you to come out to Legacy Hideaway and make some memories.

Time to Celebrate!

A long weekend at Legacy Hideaway to work and celebrate Richard's birthday. We have made quite a bit of progress. The interior is painted, the new beds are set up and I bought all new linens and comforters. Pictures are even hung on the walls. The Shapiro Family portrait is hung over the fireplace and photos taken by Richard grace the walls throughout the house. He took many of them out here at Legacy Hideaway. The landscape and the critters out here are a photographer's dream. Make sure to bring your camera when you come to Legacy Hideaway.

Lanny from Hill Country Propane came by after I called to ask how to turn the propane stove back on...he suggested it might be better if he did it!   He was here in less than an hour and I cooked our first meal using the stove. What great service!  Now I can take my crockpot home. There is a new one here for you to use.

The deck is next big project. The boards have been power washed and the bad boards have been marked. Richard repainted the patio furniture that had belonged to my parents.  We can enjoy dining on the deck at the same table, we shared meals with my parents long ago.

We have come along way and I am proud of what we have accomplished.  I can't wait for you to come out to Legacy Hideaway and make some memories.

Some days are just better than others.

Last night on the way out to Legacy Hideaway Richard’s truck experienced transmission issues in Dripping Springs and had to be towed back to Austin. Bummer, but AAA came to the rescue. The bed frame I put together last week was supposed to be a queen..turns out it was a full. The mattress I purchased this week was a queen.  Guest room completion- set back another week. Today is a new day! Richard is out here and we went to Luckenbach to celebrate our anniversary. Luckenbach is one of my favorite place on the planet. Nothing like listening to Texas music under the stars to celebrate and make a good day even better. Luckenbach, TX is 31 miles from Legacy Hideaway and so worth the drive.

Sharing the love!!

Happy Valentine’s Day!  It’s all about the love. I could never have gotten this far without the help of my village. Rudy and Robin spent four days working on projects at Legacy Hideaway this week. I had the opportunity to spend Valentine's Day with them and my best friend. Robin helped me paint and assemble furniture. Rudy and Richard dug up the stump by the car port and worked on other guy things. Edie and James lent their skills to help assemble furniture. The best part was sharing a smorgasbord lunch on the deck in the sunshine. Legacy Hideaway is coming together with  love! Come out to Legacy Hideaway and make some memories.

What do relaxation, porcupines and barstools have in common?

Richard brought me out here to relax and recuperate after a minor surgery while he worked on his projects. For a few hours I snuggled up on the big orange couch and worked on my logo with Dylan via the internet.  We now have a logo for Legacy Hideaway and I am so excited. Thanks Dylan for your guidance and knowledge. Relaxation can only last so long when there are projects to be done! I assembled the three new barstools for the kitchen island. They are very nice and safe to sit on.

While Richard was installing the new gate, he encountered the largest porcupine I have ever seen. The porcupine ambled up, showed his quills and then took off in another direction. Close encounters. Reminder to be aware of your surroundings. The beauty of the Hill Country includes critters that can be dangerous if you are not aware of your environment.

We are connected!

One month sure makes a difference. Legacy Hideaway is now equipped with WiFi, a land line and Direct TV. We can connect to the outside world or just sit on the deck and enjoy the squirrel circus.  We met our neighbors and they have educated us on the wildlife and plant life in the area. I was guaranteed that I will see hummingbirds in the spring and there is no need to put the food out now.

My brother-in-laws all came up for a "Guy Weekend." Mowing, painting, duct work and lots testosterone based laughter; they were making memories and sharing their childhood stories. You're invited to come out to Legacy Hideaway with your “bros” to make memories and I won’t ask you to mow or paint.

Brynn showed up to celebrate my birthday and I DID ask her to paint. She helped with the trim. We are finished painting all the rooms now we have miles and miles of trim to paint. Come out to Legacy Hideaway and make some memories.

BIG DAY AT LEGACY HIDEAWAY

The day I closed on the property I ordered custom-made Murphy beds for the Hobby Room. I placed the order with Harriet Greenlee, owner of Furniture in The Raw. The beds arrived today and I am pee- in-my- pants excited! I can’t wait for my guests to see this beautiful piece of furniture. Richard and Fredo worked hard to move the thermostat and paint the walls to be ready for the installation. The installation was quick and they gave me a short tutorial on how to use the beds. EASY PEASY and even I can reach it. The painter matched the paint and the walls are no longer burnt orange. Sorry Richard. Things are falling into place.

About making memories…we had a nice time with the kids and their friends for Christmas. All seven of us fit on the couch. The dogs enjoyed the deck…not the couch. We have safety gates available to keep dogs and children safe on the deck. We checked out Chisholm Trail Winery, about 9 miles from Legacy Hideaway. We enjoyed several bottles of wine and joined their wine club. We dined at Longhorn Cafe in Harper. (5 miles) Richard say its the best chicken fried steak in Texas. We can’t wait to share our knowledge of our community with our guests. It’s almost time to invite guests to make memories at Legacy Hideaway.

Happy New Year,

Anita

Quiet time at Legacy Hideaway

I had a wonderful surprise when I came out here to deliver more flooring. Tommy Norris, our handyman, had already completed the master bedroom floor. It’s so beautiful. I’m so grateful that I chose not to do it and got his name. It just changed the look of the room.

We have been working so hard to get the property ready for guests that we have not taken any time to stop and enjoy the beauty around us. So this morning I have stepped out on the deck with my coffee, the sun is shining and we have warmer than usual weather. The birds are singing and a little squirrel came up close enough to grab food out of the feeder before scampering away. This is a peaceful memory that I wish for my future guests.           STOP… BREATHE…RELAX…ENJOY THE BEAUTY.

I worked until 1:30 a.m. to clean and get the house ready for our first special overnight guests...our children. They will sleep on the couch and blow up mattresses but we will spend Christmas night together at Legacy Hideaway. In the next 48 hours I’m looking forward to making memories with my family.

Happy Holidays,

Anita

Major Meltdown

Making some progress painting the Guest Room. Choose soothing colors, once they were on the wall they are a bit more blue than I expected but it looks beautiful. I'm really happy with how it turned out. In the living/dining area we hit a snag. After we moved the bookcases  and the entertainment center, we found out the walls had not been painted behind the furniture. Those walls are burnt orange. Matching the paint became an issue and I had to contact the painter through the previous owner. I admit I had a meltdown in Sutherland’s. Don’t know how I will handle any more surprises. To add to our Legacy, Richard’s mom gave us the artificial Christmas tree his family used when he was growing up. We decorated it with some new ornaments and Legacy Hideaway had it’s first Christmas tree.

Happy Holidays,

Anita

Making Progress

Richard and I removed 690 pounds of carpet, matting and dirt. It took two dump runs. We received a referral from my RE agent, Shelton Neffendorf, of a local handyman to do our floors. He suggested a great product. Richard and I went to Kerrville to purchase the flooring. We bought 27 boxes and he’ll start the job next week.  YIPEEEE

Couch Delivered

The first day I went shopping for a couch I found what I wanted but I continued to shop just in case. A few days later I went back to Couch Potato www.austincouches.com and purchased the perfect couch.  It is an orange sectional with a sofa sleeper. I am so excited to have this couch I can't wait to be the first person to sit on it. Had to pull up the carpet in the den and large open dining room so the couch wouldn't be on it.

When the couch got delivered it was everything I wanted. I can’t wait to take the plastic off of it and get cozy. House is too dirty to remove the plastic. I also decided the flooring job was just too big for me. I can pull up and remove the carpet but need a knowledgeable person to put down the new floor. Asking for referral to do with flooring.

Major stuff happening!

Pulled up carpet in master bedroom, closets and bathroom! YES the bathroom has carpet! Started laying the vinyl strips in closet. Cleaned, cleaned and cleaned some more. The wood bed was cleaned, polished and fitted with new mattress, mattress cover, linens and pillows! Richard changed all the locks and worked on the entry gate.

Purchased the domain for my website!

BEST PART: Dylan, Lindsey and their dogs spent the night with us. It was their first time to visit Legacy Hideaway. Due to the rain the dogs couldn't roam but they loved the inside space and the deck. Lindsey and Dylan are most fascinated with the wildlife and possibility of hunting. We started our Guest Table Cloth, personal guests will be asked to put a paint handprint on our table cloth. Planted wildflower seeds in the front meadow.

Renovations to Begin-FOR REAL

Renovations begin by cleaning and getting a tutorial on PROPANE USAGE. Lanny with Hill Country Propane was a godsend today. Made decision to keep the propane fireplaceWe will build a fire pit eventually to use the firewood on the property. Until then we have a portable fire pit that makes a great fire and still has the ability to roast a marshmallow or two. The stove needs to be de-grossed; so we turned the propane off at the stove until further notice. I purchased the beautiful handcrafted king bed from the previous owner.  Purchased new mattress.
